****Spoiler Alert*****

In my previous post I talked about the emotional and psychological problems of Dean Winchester and what caused them. Someone I'm sure you noticed I didn't talk about yet is Castiel. This is where I plan to tell you about the problems and damage caused to Deans mental stability caused by him even though he doesn't cause it intentionally.

Castiel plays a big part in causing and enforcing Deans abandonment issues. He is Deans only friend that he has been able to depend on in his entire life (besides Benny Lafitte). If you are in the fandom then you also know he is a possible love interest, especially according to the fangirls. I, personally, do ship Destiel. Castiel has a long history of "dying" and/or disappearing.

Castiel's first time dying is in the season 5 finale. He immediately comes back but not before Dean watches his brother Sam, while possessed by Lucifer, kill both Cas and Bobby, the closest thing he's had to a real, loving father, with a snap of his fingers. He had also just watched as Lucifer, still in his brothers, body beat him bloody, jumped into the pit and drag Adam, their half brother, with him. Castiel then betrays and abandon Dean during season 6 by working with Crowley, the king of hell, in order to take the souls from purgatory and beat his brother Rafael to the throne in heaven. The entire time, Castiel deceived Dean several times in order to gain Crowley's loyalty. Cas also betrayed him during this season by letting Crowley kidnap Lisa, his previous love interest and her son, Ben who Dean also cared for.

Eventually Cas becomes the new "God" after absorbing all the souls in purgatory and betrays Dean again by breaking the wall in Sam's mind of his time in hell which would slowly break his mind. Castiel's body is taken over by the oldest monsters in purgatory, called leviathans. They caused Castiel's second death which crushed Dean and he kept Castiel's coat until they found him again. Once Castiel is found he has no memories of being an angel and nobody knew he was alive. He was found to help fix Sam's mind and instead takes the hallucinations and torture onto his own mind. Castiel is once again lost and Dean is forced to leave him in a mental institution dues to his catatonic state.

Once Cas regains his mind, he helps Dean, Sam, Meg and Kevin find and protect the tablets. Cas causes more destruction by ignoring Dean, who was right, by working with Metatron, and causing all the angels to be cast from heaven. Dean feels abandoned because Cas didn't answer his prayers and Sam is on the verge of death again, while Cas is actually stranded without his Grace, unable to hear Dean. Dean is also forced to kick Cas out of his permanent home after finally being reunited with him because Ezekiel, the angel inhabiting Sam without his knowledge, is forcing Deans hand by threatening Sam's life.

This time, Cas is killed by April, a girl who seems helpful and kind to Cas, while actually being a reaper looking to claim the bounty set on Castiel's head. Dean blames himself and is barely able to get Ezekiel to save and heal him. This happens in season 9, which is where I am currently up to. I feel the fact that Dean almost always hold himself accountable for other peoples suffering also plays a large part in his issues.

In conclusion, Castiel may be Dean's best and only friend but his constant habits of leaving, dying and betraying Dean is ruining not only Deans trust and his ability to do so in the future, but his self worth and his confidence in his abilities. Although neither one is completely innocent in their relationship. Dean also has his faults and has died many times including more than double the amount Cas has. Dean has also betrayed Cas several times so their relationship may not be completely healthy but will break and mend itself as much as it needs to because they will always stick by each other, even if they're not there.
